Configuration: (K)Ubuntu 8.04 VirtualBox 1.6.2 I've had problems with NAT networking for some time. I was getting periodic long delays in network response on the order of 1-2 minutes. Particularly in Lotus Notes. Very annoying to say the least. I've searched the internet for anyone else reporting the same or similar problem. Looks like I'm alone. So, I decided to try something other than NAT. Enter; Host Inteface Networking. |

As an Ubuntu Linux user, I was under the impression that virtual machines were somehow not as exposed to viruses. Shame on whoever spewed that nonsense, shame on me for hoping it was true. I've got a configuration that's been infected - (K)Ubuntu 8.04 host with a WinXP guest. It's the guest files that are infected, the host is still clean.

I recently reinstalled Ubuntu Linux and really didn't want to recreate and reinstall the guest OS and applications all over again. Each time I've tried this in the past, I quickly became frustrated and did just that - reinstalled it all. This time I found a cool trick to get the existing VDI to work. The VDI was originally created with VirtualBox version 1.5.6. Since the Ubuntu team seems to be leaving updates out of the main repository for VirtualBox, I decided to go with the newest release 1.6.2 (addition information on this). |
